The long-awaited outcome of Lord Justice Jackson’s review of civil litigation costs in England and Wales has been broadly welcomed by the British Safety Council.
A number of recommendations, if implemented by Government and the courts, could have a significant impact on the costs of litigation incurred by employers in defending personal injury claims and hopefully help reduce the cost of employer liability insurance.

A street which has seen one of the highest number of motor insurance claims made in Britain is being covered in bubble-wrap to raise awareness of the dangers of the road.
Somerville Road in Worcester will be covered in the plastic sheeting by Confused.com on Wednesday 27th January to highlight the need to be careful when behind the wheel. The price comparison site states: “To raise awareness of the need to insure your car and take care on the roads, Confused.com has identified the street that has generated one of the highest number of accident claims in the UK.” From 07:30 GMT, residents will deal with the bubble-wrap that will smother their garden fences, cars and street lights.

A Mine worker wins fishing accident compensation claim as workers were encouraged to stay awake between shifts.
The mine worker who was seriously injured in a car crash on a fishing trip won an appeal against his claim for workers’ accident compensation after a lengthy legal battle.
Paul Clarke, 37, of Moulden, was a diesel fitter at Ranger uranium mine in 2005 and crashed a work car after a seven-day working week.

A lorry carrying approximately five tonnes of cornflakes jack-knifed on a ring road in Basingstoke as it slid down the embankment which was covered in snow.
The lorry was travelling to a local Sainsbury’s depot in, Basingstoke. It is not clear how the accident happened but witnesses say they saw the lorry swerve from side to side before the rear of the lorry went down the embankment.
Thankfully thee lorry driver, a Mr Ken Spragg, walked away from his lorry, although he later complained that he had a sore back. It is alleged that Mr Spragg was cut up by another truck before the lorry accident.
