Workmen’s Compensation Division To Assist With Changes

The department is currently dealing with allegations of corrupt doctors and lawyers who are cheating workers, as well as the division itself, out of funds. The scandal has seen at least one state senator, a lawyer by trade, off to prison. The attorney general has declared that action will be taken against others.
A lawyer is intending to ask the platform convention to make large alterations in the workmen’s compensation operations. Injured workers should be told how much they will be awarded and are then subsequently paid by check on a regular basis. Lawyers will be paid in one lump sum, via check, as a professional courtesy. The checks will be made out in the name of the worker; the worker must be notified of the settlement amount. These policies are in action right now.
The premiums for workmen?s compensation insurance currently being charged employers are being considered by a legislative committee. A group of bills was just passed by the legislature to change the way claims were decided and compensation was awarded. A review committee was created.
